We will never forget our 6 years living on top
of a steep hill with an abundance of wonderful
wildlife all around us. They trusted us.

Wordless Wednesday! February 16, 2022

My sweetie took this photo in the fall of 2017.
We were living on 10.5 acres near Mt Shasta at that time.
Magical place.

Happy Tuesday! May 7,2019

A happy flash from the past!
While living in the mountains near Mt Shasta
we always enjoyed seeing the baby deer!
(you can see Mt Shasta in the upper left of this photo)
Have a Happy Tuesday where ever you are!

Early Awww Monday November 25, 2018

After all the welcome rainy days
yesterday turned out to be sunny and dry.
Some of our deer came out from the forest
and I gave them a few bits of carrots.

I will truly miss the deer and all the other
mountain animals.
BUT Russell will not miss all the work that
is necessary here!
And we both will miss all our dear friends!

No snow yet on the Eddy's as
they are only at altitude 9037'
and Mt. Shasta's altitude is 14,180'.

While out yesterday taking photos of
all the fall colors, this lovely deer
watched me for the longest time.
Some of my favorite friends have four legs!

You can see a bit of our house past
all the oak trees. Later in winter
the house will be quite visible!

Three days ago this lovely 2 point buck was
lounging in the sunshine near our fenced
vegetable garden with his harem and fawns
close by....

The next day I saw him under our bird feeder
drinking water, but not in good shape.
We think he'd been hit by a car as his left
antler was broken off and his right leg was
broken around the ankle region. It was
awful to see and there was nothing we could
do for him. After drinking a lot of water he
stumbled off, stopping to eat acorns along the way.
Since then we haven't seen him and we have to
assume he is probably dead. It makes us so sad to see
this and we hope he isn't out there still suffering.
Meanwhile his family is hanging outside our
home keeping each other company.
We love our deer.

But the fawn in the background is ignoring me
as it's too busy eating delicious acorns!

It has been very hot here and will continue
to be in the high 90's for another week.
This lovely doe has been hanging out with
us for about a week. She had a fawn with her,
but now we haven't seen it for several days.
We're afraid perhaps the coyotes or the
cougar may have gotten it as there have been
a lot of coyotes yipping nearby at night and
some folks have seen the cougar.
Makes me sad, but I know it's just part
of living out in the country.

I've lived here now for 6 years and
even though a lot of our friends view these
animals as pests...I still think they are adorable.

Wordless Wednesday .............. November 15,2017

RIP
This beautiful buck has not been around for
about a month, so we suspect he's been taken by a hunter.
It's a fact of life here, but I'm very sad and I'll miss seeing
this beautiful buck saunter through our property.

Doe with one of her two fawns.
We keep large saucers filled with water
for all our wildlife-especially during fire season.

As you can see from my header photo
we have a lot of smoke from all the
wildfires around us. So far except for all the smoke we have no fires close to us.
The closest was in Dunsmuir and thanks to all the volunteers and Cal Fire
the Bradley fire is under control.
Firefighters are our heroes.
Stay safe where ever you are!
