I'm always up before dawn with Lucy
wanting to be fed and then she goes back
to sleep and I go outside to water the garden,
fill up the bird feeder and listen to the day begin.
Last night it rained a bit and this morning
the birds were more active flying about
and I could hear the Canada geese honking
overhead. I think fall is just around the corner!

oregano, thyme, valerian, rosemary, chives and mint.
Plus 5 tomato plants and 6 basil plants.
Not forgetting I also have two rose bushes
marigolds, hops and daylilies.

Simply glorious and this was on my drive
to the dump. Not everyone sees  this on their
way to the dump.  We are so lucky to be living here.

I do believe winter has arrived.......

Mt Eddy December 18, 2014   8:31 am

I know the official date for winter is December 21st
and yet.....doesn't this look like winter?
I took this photo earlier today. It's cold and windy,
but NOT raining or snowing so I walked around
our 10.5 acres to see what I could see.
Lots of little Goldfinches, Steller's jays,
Black-capped chickadees, White-breasted  Nuthatches and Juncos. No California Gray squirrels to be seen...
I think they are taking a nap.
We can see Mount Shasta and Mount Eddy from our property.
Mount Eddy is my favorite. It is the highest summit
in the Trinity Alps which are part of the Klamath mountains.
To read more about Mount Eddy you can go here .
Have a great day!

We're finally seeing snow on the Eddys.
Hopefully we'll have more snow and/or
lots more rain before summer is here.

The A-Z Challenge requires that we
post a blog each day in April except
for Sundays for each letter of the
alphabet. Today the letter is D.

Weapon of Massive Fires

Today was the big day for finishing up the Manzanita
removal project that was started last May of 2012.

With the help of Todd and Tim of Cut-Wright
and their amazing machine short work was made
of the remaining burn piles!

Tim had about 6 fires going simultaneously
and Russell kept moving around
making sure everything was burning safely.

Pretty damn amazing how flammable this
Manzanita is- thank goodness this is a
controlled burn as opposed to a Summer wildfire.

Russell with a fire fighting tool....

We highly recommend Todd and Tim Wright of Cut-Wright
They offer a full range of services for the home/land owner
ranging from small scale logging to pruning fruit trees
Address: PO Box 410, Mt Shasta, CA 96067
Tel: 530 926 4388
Fax: 530 926 4388
We could not have accomplished this task
without their professional advice and help!

WORK...... the new four letter word!

No rest for the wicked they say...
for the last 5 days we have had our
morning coffee and then off to work outside....

One would never know we're retired!
We bought this used quad for snow removal,
and it is now paying for itself in pulling out Manzanita
to be burned......here Russell is pulling out a large piece...

Now he's putting it on top of the fire....

At the end of our work day.....
we usually spend about 5-6 hours
 Russell tends the fire......
and I get a beer for each of us while we sit
and watch the fire die down....

And look at beautiful Mt. Eddy ....
What projects are you working on at your home?
