 Sunrise Friday morning

We made a quick 3 day trip up and back  

to Dunsmuir, California this past weekend.

Visiting good friends, returning things,
  bringing gifts, attending an

art opening and basically having a great time!  

We left at 5am Friday so we could arrive with

most of the day left to play!

Saturday dinner at Cafe Maddalena

Our favorite restaurant!

Sunday we visited more friends, some

with four legs and some with only two legs!

Thanks Bill and Ewana for the brewskis and fun visit!

Plus we had delicious pizza before heading

home to get ready for our drive home

early Monday morning!

  We just got back from spending 5 days

down in the Mt Shasta area of Northern California.

We celebrated a friends wedding and

visited many friends and enjoyed the beautiful

and warm Indian Summer days.

Here are a few random photos from our visit:

Railroad Days in Dunsmuir, California!!

Every year the railroad town of Dunsmuir

celebrates the railroad.

A lot of young and old railroad riders

come to town and a lot have their dogs

and their musical instruments.

While having a lovely lunch in Dunsmuir

I spotted a peach tree beginning to

bud out with little leaves and pink blossoms.

 Because Dunsmuir is 1000' lower in altitude than

 where we live spring comes about a month earlier.

We had Valentines dinner here at the

Railroad Park Resort in Dunsmuir, CA.

It's also a unique motel - with railroad cars

and cabooses as your room.

The stunning Castle Crags are in the background.

We had a fun time!

I love riding the Amtrak train....

 

 

 

Leaving the Portland Oregon Union Station...

I'll be on the train for 10 hours

and will arrive in Dunsmuir CA

around 12:30am!

I've been sitting in the dome car as I love

seeing the world go by and it's always

fun meeting fellow travelers.

Everyone has a story. 

Now I'll go back to my seat and read...

 

Ahhh...nothing better than being home!

And our turkeys are back!

We have been busy this week.....

Smoky skies create an eerie light

inside our home....

 

 

Russell has been tremendously

busy cutting down dead trees due to pine beetles and the drought.

 

Lots of nicely stacked wood

waiting for the log splitter we

will be borrowing from friends.

 

Everywhere I turn there's another pile!

 

I think the "Chefette" owes him

a big steak dinner?? 

 

Meanwhile.....

 

We listened to these incredible musicians... 

who are here for a week of study

and performances.

This is the third year for this event.

Pacific Crest Music Festival .
They played one evening at
Dunsmuir Brewery Works

 

And after our Friday hike they came

to a friends home to play after

we had eaten our pot luck lunch... 

 

And here's why children should have

music lessons....
