 This past weekend we went to Astoria, Oregon for a reunion with many of Russell's Special Forces buddies. We barbequed and we all brought side dishes to share. It was a great time! 

The day before Russell and I explored the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park and spent some time looking at Fort Clatsop and hiking one of the many trails.  

We walked a total of 2 miles along the

Columbia River- so very peaceful!

The next day was the BBQ day! It was held in

the old enormous Bumble Bee cannery that now has

a lot of interesting history and lots of rooms

full of machinery exhibits. In addition there 

are shops with lots of fun things

to purchase and also some restaurants.

Our reunion was held in the banquet room that had 

wonderful views of ships and the Columbia River.

Everyone had a great time catchimg up, laughing

 and telling stories! Here are a few photos:

It was very smoky that day because of all the

wildfires in Oregon.

This pigeon watched me closely for a bit....

Wordless Wednesday and Our Return Home September 15, 2021

 The Parowan Gap

Russell and I set out early Monday for Salt Lake City on our three day return drive knowing we would do a bit of exploring on the way! 

Our first stop was the Parowan Gap- a site full of petroglyphs! We spent a few hours there - I had never seen petroglyphs before and was fascinated by these ancient drawings on stone. If you click on the images they will be easier to see.

Final photo- this gives you the idea of how huge these cliffs are. 

Before we drove away I took this photo as a comparison to ancient petroglyphs and today's ? petroglyphs!!

And I also took this photo of the sunflowers we have been seeing all along our drives through Utah.

Our next stop before Salt Lake City was the historic Cove Fort.

We spent quite some time exploring this fascinating restored site. Cove Fort is a fort, unincorporated community, and historical site located in Millard County, Utah. It was founded in 1867 by Ira Hinckley at the request of Brigham Young. Here are a few photos:

The flag was at half mast.

  Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox had ordered the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff at all state facilities from sunset, August 26, 2021, until sunset on August 30, 2021, in honor of the U.S. service members and other victims killed in the terrorist attack in Kabul, Afghanistan.

We finally arrived back in Salt Lake City! 

And the next morning found us legally speeding!

Holy smokes - what was interesting is that driving these speeds actually improved our gas mileage. Instead of the usual 28 mpg we were getting 35 mpg! 

Now driving through Idaho and the speed limits are the same.

Ahhhh finally we have reached the Columbia River! Our friends in Baker City Oregon will be happy to see us!

We had a great time on our 9 day drive- but it is always good to be home and cuddle with our Lucy!

Awww Monday November 25, 2019

We spent a few hours this Sunday having 

a lovely walk along the Columbia River. 

We came upon two men quietly feeding the

many ducks and a few sea gulls. Silently tossing bits 

of bread while the numerous birds noisily enjoyed a snack.

I carefully walked or should I say waded through

these ducks and gulls so I could talk to the men.   

They come here almost every day. 

I felt like they were the Pied Pipers of Ducks

since so many of the ducks followed one man as he left.

However, after a bit, they turned around and went back to

the river bank.

It's Awww Monday and April Fools Day! April 1, 2019

Last Saturday we actually went to downtown

Vancouver, Washington for the first time

since we moved! It was a gorgeous day and

we had a lovely time and a delicious brunch.

The photo above is my attempt of making a collage...

I need to find some online software better

than what I have at the moment.

But, it will do for now!

This is the I-5 bridge that crosses the Columbia river.

On the south side is the state of Oregon. Not much traffic

on Saturday but it is a traffic nightmare on week days.

It is the biggest chokepoint on all of I-5 from 

the border of Mexico to the border of Canada.

Not so Awwwsome !

Thankful Thursday! March 13, 2019

Thanks Brian!

 

 

I am especially thankful for our new home

as it backs up to a small green belt where

we can watch little critters and all sorts

of birds hopping and flying through.

I managed to capture this female

Hairy Woodpecker enjoying pecking

away at the suet feeder.

 

 

 

Strangely enough I am grateful for the 205 bridge

that takes us across the Columbia River

to visit friends and family. Sometimes the

traffic can be a bit much, but we're learning

to time our departures and to be patient!

 

 

And then if you are not the one driving you

 can look out the window and watch the world go by. 

You can just glimpse Mt. Hood on the far right.

Life is good and I have no complaints!
