Especially this year. We may not be able 

to visit them in person, but we certainly 

can talk on the phone, write letters back

 and forth and exchange photos and 

stories online! I consider all our blogger

Made one large apple pie for dessert.... 

 

 

And cleaned up after making lots of marmalades

Magpie Tales #45- an Early Christmas Gift

Not being the religious sort I was a bit stuck on what
I would write for this weeks Magpie Tales. But then
I thought about the new little life that had just come into
our home. A darling little kitty had been roaming our
neighborhood some days back and we were going from
door to door trying to find her family. After a few days
we realized that indeed she was a stray cat and most
likely had been abandoned. We had been catless for a
few years- resisting getting another as we figured
that at some point a cat would choose us and she did!
So rather than write about Christmas I decided I would
write about my favorite saint...Saint Francis!



On July 16, 1228, he was pronounced a saint by Pope Gregory IX. He is known as the patron saint of animals, the environment and one of the two patrons of Italy (with Catherine of Siena), and it is customary for Roman Catholic and Anglican churches to hold ceremonies blessing animals on his feast day of 4 October. It has been argued that no one in history was as dedicated as Francis to imitate the life, and carry out the work, of Christ in Christ’s own way.

And here is our darling little kitty....no name yet.
Any suggestions? She is all gray with one white spot on her chest.
I want to call her "Spot", but Russell says that is a silly name for such a beautiful cat.
*****please note that the kitty now has a name-because of her loud purr we are calling her Evy which is short for Evinrude! Thanks everyone for all your great suggestions! Merry Merry Christmas!

New Years Eve...Hello 2010...

The day before we were to leave for Weed ...snow showed up...

Sheer boredom in a traffic jam will lead to photos like this....Where did all these people come from????????

We gave up and went to Fulton Pub for a few hours

rather than sit in traffic.....

The next day we were able to get out of town

and drive 5 hours south to Weed CA to spend

New Years with our good friends Bill and Ewana

We are always happy to see Mt Shasta!
This photo was taken at the Living Memorial Sculpture Garden
in Weed. We had never been here before and were very
impressed by the sensitive and strong sculptures.

This piece is entitled The Greatest Generation

After going through the sculpture garden we stopped by

Leonard's Taxidermy to meet Leonard and to check on Russell's Bear rug.

Leonard's taxidermy is more than just a stuffed animal...

he studies the animals in the wild. When I asked him how

he learned to do taxidermy his reply was-

"I went to the library". Really an interesting person!

Whe he hunts he only uses a bow and arrow.

Yow..........step away from the bear.

New Years Eve finds us first at Mt Shasta Brewing...

Russell is rolling his eyes as I tickle him...

Bill and Ewana at the pub...

Then we went to listen to Leonard and friends play music

at a local watering hole.....we stayed until 1130pm...

even got a few dances in! Then back to the house to play

a few wicked games of Trionimoes before 2010 rolled in...

New Years Day we went to another home where they

have an inordinate amount of "stuff".

Such as old tractors....

Here's Lily one of their 4 dogs....

Annie thought I was the best thing since sliced bread or dog chewies...

One of the out buldings had a lot of old cars and parts...

and an Africa room....Safari style....yikes

Back at Bill and Ewana's home...

Russell and Ewana made delicious pizza...

and Tuffy snoozed....we had a great New Years!

Dinner at the Burton's

Russell and I had a fun evening last night

at Rosie and Rays house. We ate and laughed and

drank some wine and laughed some more!

Scott and Cindy joined us and we all had

a great time......below are some wooden hand

carved Santas that Scott and Cindy made.

This year they were being sold at the

Real Mother Goose store in downtown Portland!

We are lucky to have a few....

Here's little Lily. She was found abandoned on the street

hungry, dirty and now very happy to be in such a good home.

Lily joins Tiger....they get along and play well together.

Annual Ross Griffin Christmas Gift Exchange Party -Part 1

Once again we kick off the Holiday Season

with Ross Griffin's Christmas Gift Exchange

We all make 8 handcrafted gifts and get together

at someone's home to eat, laugh,drink,laugh and

select 8 gifts to take home .

This year I hosted the party and we had a blast!

Kathe Brady made these delectable Chocolate Chip cookies

wrapped up in a cute bowl

and topped with a hand quilted ornament

Before we began to choose our gifts-we had to place

all our goodies on or around the table.... The first item I chose was the lighted and decorated

little tree in the background.

Sheila Wilson brought the trees......

There were so many items to choose from....

it was difficult to choose.... Kathy Reilly made these quilted fish-they didn't last long! We all had such a good time- seeing friends we haven't seen since the last party....time flies...

Valerie chose one of Linda Grahams knitted mufflers...

Chris Nolde and her food carrier....this was a

very popular gift....actually everyone's gifts were

so creative .... it made it hard to choose...

Jackie chose one of Chris Nolde's grocery bags... Valerie was inspired by her trip to Sweden-

she hand painted glass plates and made gingerbread

cookies using Swedish cookie cutters...cute little horses..

All in all - we all had a great time-thanks everyone !!!!
