Saturday Words and Sunday Shadows! July 18-19, 2015

A great day for a hike!
Friday's hike took us up to Horse Camp
Halfway up Mt Shasta and only 1.7 miles
from Bunny Flat. However it was a 2000'
foot gain in elevation! Hard going up,
but easy going down!

Mt Shasta in the distance

Fields of flowering Lupin

Moss covered old trees

After only perhaps an hour
we all arrived to eat a very early lunch!

This stone cabin was built for mountain climbers in 1923. Mostly indigenous materials were used for construction, including volcanic rock and Shasta Red Fir. The lodge can be used for emergency shelter for climbers. Other features of Horse Camp include a freshwater spring, low impact campsites and a solar-powered composting toilet facility.

This is the closest we've been to
this magnificent mountain.

We all made it! It was a perfect hike!

Enjoy your day!

Sadly, my more limited mobility these past few years has stripped me of the opportunity to enjoy such outings. Thanks for bringing me along, though!

  11. This is quite a climb, a sharp rise in altitude has to be difficult as the oxygen levels decrease. But given the scenery, a little oxygen deprivation is a small price :) Congrats on a great climb!
