Yesterday I borrowed an image from a
"Free Photo website" for Feline Friday
and created a shit storm of nasty comments.
So I removed the image and deleted all those comments. I've also replaced the image with one of Astro and his LO buddies who has his own opinion of those commenters. Meanwhile you can see more here of the deleted photographers art work here.
So what I have learned is even if a web site says free images- they may not be free.
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
and big thanks to Steve for Feline Friday!

You have a great Labor Day weekend too. We're back from our cruise to Pittsburg and are at home all safe and sound.
ReplyDeleteLove you. ♥♥♥
Happy Labor Day! My cats won't be wearing hard hats, though, i wish i could teach them to scoop their own boxes.
ReplyDeleteHappy Labour day to you :-)

ReplyDeleteHard to believe you received nasty comments. Some people!!!
ReplyDeletePeople can be pretty rude on the web. There are so many that know absolutely everything about everything and if you don't tow the line they jump down your throat. I'm sorry that happened to you.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. Big hug and tons of prayers for you and lots of scritches for Miss Lucy. ♥♥♥
Your kitties are very cute.
ReplyDeleteIt's good you took down the photo, but I don't think anyone was nasty. People just pointed out that the picture came from a blog where all the photos are explicitly copyrighted. Perhaps someone else appropriated it and posted it on a free site someplace, though most of the pictures on the blog in question are watermarked.
ReplyDeleteI think this was a chance for learning all around, and let's not miss the opportunity. I'm sorry if you felt unfairly attacked, but there are unscrupulous people who *do* take other people's work without a second thought--you may not be one of them, but they certainly exist and that's why people react as they do.
To all concerned- Cathy was kind enough to email me - so here is my personal reply to her:
ReplyDelete"Thanks for emailing me- I was unaware of any wrong doing as the website that has your images said these were "free". I was quite naïve. Never again.
My apologies and the image has been removed plus I posted your blog address for others to access. I will not be using "free photo websites ever again- very embarrassing. I intended no harm.
All the best to you, Kathe"
I somehow missed the plot (which I am frankly glad about!!!) Not sure if I saw the blog post in question (I have been missing quite a bit)...........and if I did see it and commented........I obviously wasn't very observant!!!! catchatwithcarenandcody
ReplyDeleteI very sorry that happened to you too, Kathe. I was horrified at the comments. Personally I don't see the fuss about using someone else's photo. Hope you all have a great Labor day. Take care.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading Marg's comment just now, I am GLAD I missed the post in question. I think regardless of what happened, people should research someone BEFORE they attack them, (especially attacking them publicly, that is uncalled for) I am so sorry this happened to you. Knowing you as I do, there isn't a chance you would have deliberately stolen a photo. catchatwithcarenandcody
ReplyDeleteStunning Keisha is NOT a website of free images!!!! We didn't see the comments before but were alerted to the fact you have now stated the photo you took was from a free website and linked to Cathy Keisha's blog. If a photo has a watermark it for sure isn't free. And if it doesn't have a watermark you should still research it. Apparantly you are friends with some of the bloggers, but that's still no excuse for stealing others hard work and claiming ownership by default of your own copyright statement. It's such a shame there has to be division betwenn us cat bloggers. And none of the photos on our website are free to use either.
