Thankful Thursday January 19, 2023

The rain may drive us all a bit bonkers,
but it is a gift from Mother Nature and
I am thankful for all the rain as it nurtures
our trees, bushes and flowers along with
giving us water to save and share with the
birds and assorted mammals that live
along with us. The deer, birds, squirrels, racoons,
possums and other animals flourish with the water.
Our French friends have taught me about
saving water in large containers such as
plastic garbage cans or large buckets.
They have the gutters from the house directly
filling up all the many large containers in their
backyard and over the rainy winter they
harvest so much rain! So much that
in the summer when they are not home I and
the neighbors use buckets of water to care for all
of the trees, bushes and flowers that need attention.
What a brilliant idea! We will be doing this also.
It makes total sense!
Thanks Brian for Thankful Thursday!

  1. We have a rain barrel that gathers water from the gutters as well.

  2. I'm thankful that up here in Ohio that it is still rain. And not snow because of this rain at an inch a week or snow I'm not sure I'd be able to shovel the driveway anymore. I like the idea of the rain barrels.

  3. Mom hates rain, absolutely despises it, but if it rains at night that is fine, she just hates being out in it and getting all soaked. A lot of people save the rain water around here too. We don't do much with plants, so no need to save any water.

  4. It's such a great idea to save the runoff water and reuse it. We were going to do that here in NC but it has rained so little that there is nothing to save. The area is down 21" in rain this past year.

  7. I'm grateful our winter is going OK also. Too much rain, however if it were normal Ohio snow I'd have 2 foot by now.

  9. My Grandparents collected rain water too and my Grandfather would only wash his hair in fresh rain water. He died at age 99 still with a full head of hair, hmmmm. Thanks for joining our Thankful Thursday Blog Hop!
