Magpie Tales #229 Crime of the Century

Grocery Store of the Past
posted by Tess Kincaid

Stores of the past with
 Uneven wooden floors
Soft luminescent lights
And tiny grocery carts
That wiggled and jiggled
Full of edible delights
Unlike today's chemistry
Monsanto masquerade
Danger lurks in GMO bites

Thanks Tess!

  4. It's a crime, all right. My Bigger Girl works in a lab where they experiment with some cloning, and the scientists there will be the first to tell you it's not safe to eat cloned animals or GMO foods!

  6. Your poem makes me nostalgic for the small family-owned grocery store around the corner from my grandparents' house when I was growing up.

  7. Like the old "dime stores" and barber shops...times have just changed too much. Brilliant take on the prompt Kathe!

  8. It's so hard to eat clean these days! I miss all the old local family chains. Now I'd have to drive at least an hour to shop anywhere like that.

Poetry with a point! I like!

  12. Oh, the detail of the uneven wooden floor! It brings me back to the little store like that in my neighborhood when I was growing up. Amazing how one detail like that can add so much to a piece. Good one Kathie.

  13. I want to go home,
where my shopping cart was a basket,
and I paid the grower in milk from my goat.

    ;-(

  14. Step back to a simpler time indeed, before the stores were filled with a million different prepared food choices all for "convenience" sake!
