My Birthday Week

My birthday is October 2nd and I fully intend
to celebrate all month!
This first photo is of September's full moon....
Here's some of my garden's bounty! I made lots of
tomato sauce this year and Delicata squash gnocci.....yum

Our good friends Bill and Ewana were coming up for a long weekend
from Weed, California to help celebrate...
So I made some Oatmeal Cranberry Coconut Orange cookies
in case we got a it peckish in between meals...hahahah

Russell and I walked down to inspect the massive sewer
interceptor project going on....the lake has been drawn down
about 25' to enable replacement of our sewer line.

Incredible project- it's taking more than a year to complete

We went to Marylhurst University
(my alma mater)
to celebrate the Art Gym's 30th year!
Greg Grenon and Mary Josephson were two of
the artists exhibiting in this marvelous show.

Wild mushrooms at the Lake Oswego Farmers Market!

I purchased some Lobster and Shitake mushrooms

Russell made a fabulous pasta dish with the mushrooms...

Huge artichokes!

Someone let these zucchini get out of control in the garden!

Gorgeous colors in the fall

Later this past week we went to the Green Dragon Brewery
and saw these goats in a field- they were with a whole bunch
more and were clearing all the brambles from the field.
Goats for Hire... the sign read" the goats are here to enjoy
and feast upon what spontaneously grows on this urban meadow.
Unlike gas-powered mowers, goats require no fossil fuels
to trim the vegetation" How clever is that?
and here's a pic of this months flower arrangement
that I put together for Blue Sky Gallery-
Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts
a non-profit gallery that is supported by
a huge group of volunteers
This month is a special month for Blue Sky
It's the 35th year it has been exhibiting photographs
and it started with just 3 photographers with a wonderful vision.
Mazeltov!
and finally...last but NOT least here's a little
video of Bill and Ewana's little
Cairn Terrier doing what he does best...
entertaining us! Enjoy!

Our Playtime in Weed....

Russell and I had such a great time visiting our friends Bill and Ewana...
we always do! Could it be the fun times playing trianimos? Here's Bill
patiently keeping score and patiently ignoring our pouting (me)
and gloating (Russell).
Or could it be the always fabulous and delicious meals prepared by Ewana?
Nope! It's the fact that they are just doggone good friends we enjoy sharing adventures and good times with.....such as the Yreka Golden Fair.

While we were visiting we got to see Tony (Ewana's son )
get his old pickup out from behind the barn...now that was a process!
We went to the fair for 3 days-it was fun watching the families
and kids having so much fun!

Here are a few photos from our time at the fair:
First there was the C and W concert...

Then the rodeo! Yee Haw!

Finally, the Destruction Derby with one of the cars having Russell's name on it
as Bill and Ewana had cooked up this scheme to surprise Russell...it worked!
What a hoot.
All in all it was a splendid 5 days in the Mt Shasta area...
thanks Bill and Ewana!

Yreka Golden Fair and Our Visit to Weed

I started to write this blog last week while we were visiting our friends Bill and Ewana.

Naturally, we had so much fun that this never got posted til now!

I will post this and will write the follow up tomorrow morning!

Enjoy our trip- we did!

Once again we headed south for 5 hours to spend time with our

good friends Bill and Ewana and go the the Yreka Golden Fair

...it never matters what we do....

because we always have fun...here's our first day:

Tuffy-their 5 year old Cairn Terrier greets us with

wild abandoned joy...such a cutie!

We tour the vegetable garden and apple orchard- apples are turning red...

The corn is getting ready to pick... The little green house frogs eat the bugs... and the Pink flamingos can be seen everywhere!

Here's one amidst the green beans...

A Few Quirky Photos....

These little piggies went to market......
and were seen in a Portland import store

One stop shopping for doggies

Whose bright idea was this? Run for your life
if you see a roaster pan....

Even fruit and veggie peelings can be pretty....

Tha Allure of Weed, California

When Russell and I drive south to Weed-a lot of
our friends say "Weed? Why?"
Well, here's a few reasons why:
Tuffy-a fine Cairn Terrier who is fun to play with,
The deck-the most relaxing way to spend a day in Weed

and most importantly- our very good friends Bill and Ewana!
Now, they know how to show us a good time!
