Yesterday evening found us in Phoenix, Oregon
watching sculptors pour bronze into their
lost wax molds....it was awesome to say the least!
Blasting the wax out of the set molds
to make room for the molten bronze...
Bronze is being melted inside...
Meanwhile the molds are here under
the glass blankets coming up to the same
temperature as the molten bronze...
Another view of glass blankets...
There were about 40 people there to
watch and learn...
Carefully pouring molten bronze...
Closer look at pouring bronze into the molds...
It took about 30-40 minutes for the bronze
inside the molds to cool enough so the
the sculptors could start to break the molds open...
The molds are made by dipping the sculptures into
a type of silica slurry over and over again until
they are thick enough for the bronze pouring.
One example of small sculptures partially
released from the mold.
