Magpie #200 Two Friends

Self-portrait by Francis Bacon

Two close friends
Shared their love of painting
Now laugh uproariously
Over money spent
~~~~~~
Lucian Freud and Francis Bacon met in 1945. An intense bond quickly
developed between these two giants of post-war British painting.
It was inevitable that each would soon appear in the other's paintings.
Francis Bacon's painting  "Three Studies of Lucian Freud" recently
set the record as the most expensive piece of art ever auctioned,
selling for $142,405,000.
Francis Bacon died April 28, 1992 and Lucian Freud died July 20, 2011.
