MagpieTales 125- Sunrise to sunset

Chilmark Hay, 1951 by Thomas Hart Benton

Sunrise to sunset
The farmer and his horse work
So that you and I can sleep in
Knowing our daily bread
Will be rich from the hearty earth
and their endless labors.
~~~~~~~~~
Every year I grow what food I can and every year I appreciate
even more all the hard work done by our local farmers.
Support your local farmers by buying locally grown food.
Small family farms are a precious commodity.
  9. And the local farmers grow real food and not GMO stuff from Monsanto.
    Nice poem in support of the small local farmers.
  11. Too true , Kathe, intensive agriculture and genetic engineering are two of the darker demons to emerge from our orgy of pure reason and logic these last few hundred years
  12. Sop true. Family farms are where we find the real meaning of work and where one can still see the magic of interaction of soil, seed, water and sunlight. But it is also where preparation six months ago, sometimes longer produces a harvest that, in the end, might find itself in glut and not worth picking! Farmers are our heroes.
  13. Very true! I used to impress on my (engineering) students that the real reason they were able sit listening to me boring them senseless was that they had folk out there growing their food for them.
  14. Oh, such a lovely tribute!
  15. I love that you chose to highlight locally grown food, Kathe. The freshness makes such a difference! Food that is engineered to travel great distances without spoiling, will not keep our bodies healthy. Thank you for sharing this meaningful message. =D
